Officials lack spirit of Vanam Manam in Akiveedu
Akiveedu: Even as the state government has launched Vanam-Manam programme to increase green cover, the saplings intended for distribution to people are drying up at a nursery at Irrigation office here.
The saplings worth lakhs of rupees have been perishing as they were neither planted by officials nor supplied to people to plant them in their backyard.
Scientists have been suggesting massive plantation of saplings is panacea for pollution in urban areas. Even Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is administering oath to people to plant saplings.
The local people have been criticising the authorities for wasting people’s money by ignoring nurseries. They allege that waste of plants witnessed at government premises reflect the negligence of officials.
