Farmers want compensation for pest-hit paddy
Chagallu: AP Rytu Sangham demanded that the state government pay compensation to farmers whose paddy crop is damaged because of various pests. A team of the sangham led by upland district secretary K Srinivas visited paddy fields here and assessed the damage caused to the farmers.
Speaking on the occasion, Srinivas informed that the farmers had suffered huge losses as pests of different kind damaged the crop. Though the farmers spray the pesticides by spending at least Rs 6,000 to every acre of the standing paddy crop, there was no effect on the pest. The pest was of no use to the farmer as the market was flooded with fake pesticides.
The government had miserably failed in supply of genuine pesticides to farmers. The government should take action against sellers of the fake pesticides. He also wanted the government to provide Rs 25,000 compensation per acre to the farmers whose crops were destroyed by the pests. The sangham leaders, G Venkata Subba Rao, T Ganiyya, K Buddhudu and others visited the fields.
