Farmers demand water to save crops in Eluru

Eluru: Farmers under the aegis of AP Rytu Sangham staged dharna at Collectorate here on Tuesday, demanding that the government release water for withering crops in ayacut lands in remote areas of Krishna delta.
The farmers flashed the dried up seedbeds and raised slogans against the authorities.
Addressing the gathering, the sangham leader, Srinivas said that crops in 500 acres cultivated under Gollayigudem crop canal.
The small, medium and tenant farmers had invested Rs 25,000 per acre by taking loans from private money lenders.
The crop direly needs water at this stage and the farmers were not getting water, he lamented.
Later, the agitators submitted a memorandum to Collector K Bhaskar.
