Sports for VMC school students begins
Vijayawada: Mayor Koneru Sridhar on Thursday said that sports would help develop sportsman spirit among the students. The sports would transform them in all-round development.
He participated as the chief guest and inaugurated sports for VMC high school students at Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium along with Commissioner J Nivas and deputy mayor G Venkata Ramarao here on Thursday.
The sports were organised by Traffic and Sports Committee chairperson Chennupati Gandhi to mark Children’s Day on November 5.
Speaking on the occasion, the mayor said that sports would bring out the hidden talent from the students. He said that all the students should actively participate in the games without thinking about winning or losing.
Commissioner Nivas said that about 500 students from 28 schools were present and the VMC had provided all facilities for the students like drinking water and food.
He appealed to all the students to participate in the sports by maintaining discipline.
The mayor and the commissioner appreciated P Soumya Annapurnadevi, studying in Class VIII at AKTPM School, Satyanarayanapuram for securing third place in National Throw Ball competition.
Cultural committee chairperson Nazeer Hussain, additional commissioner D Chandrashekar, deputy educational officer K Durgaprasad Rao, sports officer Shekar and others were present.
