VMC to build 12K houses by next March
- The houses constructed under PMAY in Jakkampudi village will be completed by March at any cost and allot to beneficiaries as per the eligibility
- Mayor says works were delayed due to land acquisition process and approvals to be taken for construction of houses
Vijayawada: Mayor Koneru Sridhar on Saturday said the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation would complete the construction of 12,000 houses under PMAY by March 2019.
He said the VMC started the construction of 12,000 houses in Jakkampudi village under PMAY and would complete the houses at any cost and allot to the beneficiaries as per the eligibility.
Speaking to media at his chamber on Saturday, he said the construction works were delayed due to land acquisition process and approvals to be taken for construction of houses.
Responding to the harsh criticism being made by the Left parties on slow progress of housing works, Sridhar said the Left parties have lost the confidence of people and don’t have moral right to criticise the ruling TDP.
He alleged the Left parties were criticising the TDP to make their presence felt in the city in view of ensuing elections.
Mayor has asked how the Left parties could say that the houses constructed at Jakkampudi are of low-quality. “Are the Left party leaders being engineers or technical experts to test the quality of houses,” he asked.
He said the TDP government was maintaining transparency in allotment of houses to poor under the PMAY scheme and displayed the application forms that the beneficiaries are paying the money in the name of municipal commissioner.
He said revenue and VMC were working in co-ordination to select the eligible beneficiaries for the sanction of houses.
He alleged the Left parties were responsible for dumping of garbage in Ajit Singh Nagar and said the VMC with the help of State government was trying to remove the garbage from Ajit Singh Nagar by setting up a bio-mining plant and segregating garbage with machinery.
Deputy mayor Gogula Ramana Rao and TDP floor leader in the VMC G Haribabu were present.
